What is Monero (XMR)?

Monero is built for privacy, and unlike most coins it is private by default rather than as an option. Three mechanisms work together: ring signatures mix your signature with others so the sender is ambiguous, stealth addresses generate a fresh one-time destination for every payment, and RingCT hides the amount. The result is a chain where balances and transfers cannot be read off the ledger.

That design has practical consequences. There is no public rich list and no way for a counterparty to inspect your history, which is the point; but it also means the supply cannot be audited the way Bitcoin's can, and many large exchanges have delisted the coin under regulatory pressure. Liquidity therefore sits with swap services rather than with the biggest trading venues.

Mining uses RandomX, an algorithm deliberately tuned for ordinary CPUs, so the network stayed accessible to individual miners instead of consolidating into specialised hardware farms. Issuance never ends: after the main emission finished, a small fixed tail reward keeps miners paid indefinitely.

People swap into Monero when they want funds that do not carry a visible trail, and out of it when they need something exchanges and merchants will accept. Both directions are common, and they are separate intents — which is why each has its own page.

Practical points for a swap. Monero addresses are long and come in two forms: a standard address starting with 4 and an integrated or subaddress starting with 8. Both receive normally. Unlike most chains there is no public explorer view of your balance, so the only confirmation you get is in your own wallet — give it time to sync before deciding a transfer is missing.

Transfers need ten confirmations before funds unlock, roughly twenty minutes, and that is normal rather than a delay. View keys let you prove a specific payment to a counterparty without exposing your whole wallet, which is the usual way to settle a dispute about a Monero transfer.

Questions people ask first

What is the minimum XMR swap?

0.1 XMR. Below that the network fee eats too much of the transfer to be worth sending; the exact figure per direction is shown in the table above.

How much is 1 XMR worth right now?

About $510.14, +1.33% over the past 24 hours. The figure on this page is taken from a public market feed when the page is built and refreshed in your browser.

Which network is XMR sent on?

Monero by default. Make sure the receiving address belongs to that network.

Which XMR pairs are available?

2 directions on this site: BTC to XMR, XMR to BTC. Each has its own page with the current rate and the minimum.

Do I need an account to swap XMR?

No. There is no registration and no identity check for a standard swap: you send from your own wallet and name the receiving address at the exchange step.
