Dogecoin (DOGE) Exchange

Dogecoin started in 2013 as a joke about crypto hype and outlived most of the projects that took themselves seriously. Technically it is a Litecoin descendant: the same scrypt mining, blocks roughly every minute, and no supply cap — about five billion new DOGE are issued every year, which makes it inflationary by design.

In practice it is used for small transfers and tips: fees are low, confirmations are fast by the standards of proof-of-work chains, and the address format is simple. Merchant support is thinner than for Bitcoin, so most people hold DOGE on an exchange or swap it into a stablecoin when they want to keep the value still.

Price behaviour is the thing to respect. DOGE moves on attention rather than on network usage, and single posts have moved it by tens of percent within a day. For a swap that means the quote you see and the quote at confirmation can differ noticeably — a fixed rate is worth the small premium here more often than with other coins.

Mining is merged with Litecoin: the same equipment secures both chains at once, which is why a coin with no development company behind it still has a hash rate large enough to make reorganisations impractical. Blocks come about every minute, and exchanges typically wait for twenty to sixty of them — that is where the usual wait of half an hour comes from, not from any manual review.

For a swap the practical points are three. The minimum is set in DOGE and looks large next to Bitcoin numbers simply because one coin is worth cents. The address starts with D and is not interchangeable with anything else — a DOGE transfer sent to a Litecoin address is gone. And the network fee is fixed rather than fee-market driven, so it stays the same whether the chain is busy or idle.
